Artist Statment

         My artwork consists of oil paintings, acrylic paintings, watercolor paintings, mixed media drawings, charcoal drawings, and often explore other art mediums like sculpture and printmaking from time to time. I enjoy bringing different memories that I have experienced in my lifetime back to life through my art. The themes of my artwork encompass and surround my experiences of the past. These themes include my childhood, the concept of memory and recollection, tangible and intangible photographs, as well as the manipulation of patterns within portraiture. Through the process of working and developing my artwork,I often work from old photographs as a reference and because of this, my work tends to lean more towards photorealism. I find many interests in relating my artwork back to my personal life as much as possible. Personally sifting through old tangible photographs that remind me of experiences that took place during different phases of my life helps me create artwork that represents me as an artist now.

       Everyone has their own experiences, events, and memories that take place in their life and in the end, what one goes through in their lifetime shapes who they are as a person. Our memories help us build up a sense of who we are and our relationship to the world around us. As much as our childhood memories can be powerful and emotional, in some ways what’s even more fascinating about our childhoods is what we no longer remember. I play off the experiences that I remember and challenge myself to remember those experiences to shape me as a person and an artist. By the process of recollection, I have transformed these memories and experiences in my life into what represents me as an artist in the work I create today.
